Default Transmission Shaft O-Ring Compressor

I made a quick easy tool today to help me install the transmission shafts with the O-rings, I thought maybe someone else would be interested. It's basically a mini piston ring compressor.

First I took some fine emery cloth to the sharp edges around the holes in the case to get a somewhat beveled edge, but mostly just to cut the sharp edges so they wouldn't shave the O-ring going in. I didn't really want to put a real bevel around the holes.

I took a part from an old computer, one of the block-off plates in the back of a PC to make the tool, it's just the right guage and width for the job. I tried to make it tight where the ends meet, under the screw, so the compressed O-ring wouldn't stick up in that spot.

With a good coat of petroleum jelly, a small hammer on a 1/2" wooden dowel the shafts tapped into the case very smoothly.

Good job. I usually take a countersink in my drill press and just break the edge of the transmission casing for the shafts. That makes the O'ring go in even easier.
