Default Tpi.

Does any body know the TPI and thread type of the 28/29 gas tank opening?
Is the thread tapered?

Dontcha have a thread guage? I have one but we're just about to leave on a rally so I'll check it when we get back if no one has answered since.

Yes, have a thread gauge, but not an early tank. Just answering a question given to me by a club member.

I thought you wanted the threads for the fill cap, but now I'd guess colin1928 is right. The tank drain is a tapered 1/4" pipe thread, so if you have to clean up the threads, don't screw the tap in very tight or you'll have the shut off valve ending in the wrong direction.

That's what I thought too so Colin is probably right.

Well in that case, 18 TPI is what you want.

The good thing is now we have both in one post for future searches.

Anyone want to add the tpi for the gas gauge to this thread so we have all three?
