Default Pickup question

Hi, Just finished my 1930 rpu and have the steel shell, headlights stanchions, and cowl band. I see so many that have the stainless parts I was wondering did any of the 30/31 pickups come with stainless from the factory or just added over the years, thanks

The Deluxe Pickups in late 1931 had stainless shell, headlights and cowl band.

Thanks for the reply, so did all the regular open and closed pickups only come with the painted shell, stanchions, headlight and cowl band or was the stainless available from the factory, I thought people changed to the stainless for the look. Thanks

It's only fair to add that they also had a different body and bed and were not just a standard pickup dressed up with stainless.

The regular 30-31 pickups came with painted plain steel headlight buckets, radiator shell and cowl band. After time many of these parts corroded (rusted) and when they were replaced it was easier to replace them with the stainless parts.

Bob,

Excellent logic. I never thought about it that way. I always assumed it always was done to dress up the trucks. I noticed that you, and everyone else, missed the black tail light buckets.

Charlie,

Yes I missed that. Also the pickups had the tail light bracket which were attached to the bed and not the one on the fender.

When my PU was restored (not by me) some 20+ years ago, all the aforementioned stainless parts were used -- except the headlight buckets. They are still black.
