Default Pot Metal repair - FollowUp -

I had an earlier post about self pot metal repair but given the piece and the in-ability to strip the chrome to repair myself, after much research I ended up send this to Paul's Chrome Plating. Here is the before and after. Very pleased with Paul's.

Just curious, any before and after of your wallet? I did not know pot metal could be welded.

Pot metal can't be welded but with some practice it can be repaired with Muggy Weld (low melting solder).

The repair, plating and return shipping was $250. I sent the part to them and they returned an estimate and an estimated time of repair which was almost all dead on exact, within a few days to maybe at most a week!!

Wow, beautiful job, but $250. Did they give you any type of guarantee?

Sent trunk hinges to Pauls for plating. I asked before hand if the hinge pins would be replaced. Yes it would they said. Got it back and the pin was not replaced and there was the shadow of plating on the base. Too bad they said. I was not a happy camper and will relay this story on and on to tell the true job that Pauls does.

Unfortunately V12Bill stories of "dissatisfaction" can be told of just about "all" plating establishments as I am not thrilled with Advanced Plating....And I'm sure Barner's can list many more given enough time!!!

I have a machinist who was gonna make it out of brass for me, had I needed more than just ONE repaired, I would have gone another route.....PLUS all things considered this was the least expensive option for the "end result" . The original problem with the handle was the rotating knob froze and someone held the knob tight thinking it would break free and it did not!!!. That problem is also fixed and don't anticipate any further issues with it from here on!!!!

A product is worth what someone will "happily" pay... Rockfla seems happy, that's enough for me.

$250 is a small amount to invest, when you consider the worth of a car like that.

Sure seems like a fair price to me. Lot of work goes into that type of repair and it looks like they did a great job.

When they say "The Devil is in the details"!! It is very very true with these car's....Even though they share a lot of mechanical components with the US produced Ford's the "detail" hardware Items can either be "impossible" to find OR very expensive to reproduce....the following represent many thousands of dollars to replicate and even then...getting it exact still isn't easy!!!! The picture to the far right shows the decorative cap and the window guide (for our German 1935) which was 19mm x 1.0 pitch left-hand thread for the left side of the car....find that tap!!!!
