Clutch pedal
Does this clutch pedal appear correct? This is on my 1930 coupe. My manual by Les Andrews doesn't show it with the spring.

Re: Clutch pedal
This is what you have...
https://www.brattons.com/28-aa-clutch-pedal-spring.html Do you have a 4-speed or multi-disc clutch?

Re: Clutch pedal
Take the inspection plate off the bellhousing and look to see if the spring (A7562)to the to bearing is missing---that spring is a modification to get around fixing something

Re: Clutch pedal
I have a 3 speed. Not sure about the multidisc clutch.

Re: Clutch pedal
If the you have the 1928 multidisc clutch, the top cover will be wider than it is tall. On the common single disc clutch, the cover is taller than it is wide.
On a truck 4 speed tranny, the cover is the same width as height. |

Re: Clutch pedal
Does the AA use the pedal spring in addition to a throw out bearing spring?

Re: Clutch pedal
Harly, do you think that AA spring is stronger then the standard throw out spring? The regular spring in my overdrive trans dose not pull the clutch pedal back very well and a stronger spring would be a great help. Thanks.

Re: Clutch pedal
I'm pretty sure my inspection cover is taller than wide. I will check for the throw-out spring this evening. Should I remove the spring on the clutch pedal if I find the spring is on the throw-out bearing?

Re: Clutch pedal
The pedal spring can't hurt any thing. But it shouldn't be there, on your car, for judging.

Re: Clutch pedal
I don't have to worry about judging. Mine is definitely not a points car.

Re: Clutch pedal
Only the 1928 vehicles equipped with the multiple disc clutch had the return spring. Your 1930 coupe should not require one. There would be enough return pressure without the spring..

Re: Clutch pedal
I checked tonight. It does have the throw-out bearing spring. It also appears to have enough pressure without the pedal spring. As a matter of fact, the pedal spring didn't appear to be doing much. I was able to unhook it without any tools (just using my hand). I will not put it back on. I have another issue now. The pedals I have do not have the grease fittings. The brake pedal is very loose (I am able to move it side to side). The clutch pedal seems to be fine. Neither has the brass bushings. Where should I go from here?

Re: Clutch pedal
Your shaft might be worn and need to be replaced. That's what fixed my loose pedals.
No grease zerks is no problem. Just grease them when you slide them on the shaft, and oil them each time you get under the car. There is a thin spring washer to fit between the two pedals. |
