Default The coupe is out of commission

I went for a little ride to the mother in laws today and disaster struck!
I heard a horrible sound out of the bottom end and a lot of clanking around.
I shut it down as fast as I could and got out to take a look. I looked under the car and saw oil and antifreeze pouring out of the bottom of the bell housing.
Any ideas on what could've happened? I'm sure it's not a good thing to see antifreeze and oil. It's a sad day for me but now I can really focus on the blower motor I guess

I know that sickening feeling. Hopefully it isn't as serious as it appears.

I hate to say this, BUT, it sure sounds like a thrown rod or two and internal block damage. Probably terminal as someone else mentioned. Maybe you can find a donor engine to use until you get the engine you are building ready to go.

"I looked under the car and saw oil and antifreeze pouring out of the bottom of the bell housing".

IMHO, classic case of bell housing failure.

I started pulling everything apart today Should I pull the trans with the motor since I'm changing to an 8BA?

OK, I need everyone to chime in on this one. After losing the motor, I didn't think it could get worse, but it did.
I was having a conversation with my wife and kids last night about the coupe and it seems no one cares for the car but me. I had no idea. They think to build & install a new motor is a waste of money and that I should sell the car as is!
I have a knot in my stomach. I need to keep my family happy, but I'm not sure which way to go. I know a running, driving car will get more money, but what's the cheapest alternative? I could find another 59 motor in running condition and transfer all my goodies to it, but that also costs money.
I'm sick at the thought of selling my coupe.
Please offer some ideas.

Like Chester A. Riley used to say: "What a revolting development this is." Sorry I don't have any polite family advice for you. DD

Keeping the family happy is important but if you're not happy my guess is they won't be either. Fix the car and when they're done complaining they'll love it.

Sorry to hear....
There must be a way to keep your car and family happy at the same time.
Don't fight with your family...I found that there are many solutions to a problem.
If money is tight..which it is for most of us..Is there an automotive repair school near you that might welcome a project like rebuilding a classic v8 motor. Take some time to think, don't rush..Try to tell your family that you have only hobby and it is your classic car. Consider if you have a place to work and want to learn to rebuild your motor, or maybe you can buy a newer used model v8 engine.
Take time to think.
Keep your dream alive...

If your not happy, no one is happy! Unless it's a financial hardship, don't be afraid to do what you like.

You deserve happiness as much as your family deserves happiness.
To help them see your side of things, ask them how they would feel if they gave up something they enjoyed doing, like the football team, getting hair/nails done every month, collecting dolls, pet rescue, golf, or whatever interests they have. Everyone should have something they enjoy pursuing for relaxation and fun.

Now if you have 10 different hobbies....

I can't think of anyone in my family that is into old cars except me. But family knows I've been doing this all my adult life (I'm 55) and while they don't participate, they acknowledge my interest and enjoyment of it. My wife just tells me to make sure she knows who she can contact to liquidate the cars, car stuff, and tools if I croak before she does. (and thanks for your offers guys, but I've already got that covered!)
