Temperature gauge..question..!
Hi all!
Last Sunday I could find both original (unit temperature sending). When I turn on the needle mark is almost in H (high temp) I attached a pic when it is turned on. My question if originally it is in this way, or a bad wire connection??? I appreciate your helps. Hary

Re: Temperature gauge..question..!
It could be a bad connection, could also be a bad "excess temperature switch". If the wire to the sender with one terminal is bad or loose, it will do that.

Re: Temperature gauge..question..!
Most likely is a a bad sender that is installed in the top of the passenger side of the engine. That's what has always gone wrong on my car when the gauge doesn't read right.
You can get new ones in the U.S. here: http://macsautoparts.com/early-v8-fo...0R3CHL1076402/ Or here: http://cgfordparts.com/ufolder/showp...g=130&t=879&tn= It's the single prong sender.

Re: Temperature gauge..question..!
Hi!
Both sender with one terminal and two terminal were tested and measured and no problem are new. I found this pic. I must check connections because from gauge temp to unit sender (two terminal) are two wire and not one as shown in pic, something is wrong there. What do you think? Thank again for helping me Hary

Re: Temperature gauge..question..!
That is not a "two terminal sender" that's a single terminal sender with two connections. I can't imagine what its for.

Re: Temperature gauge..question..!
The sender harylufa has is evidently for 12 volt use ('56). It is a one terminal sender. I've tried 2 of these on my pickup. Both did not work. They went to hot like you describe. The 6 volt replacements from the flathead vendors work correctly. I have these in my pickup and Courier.

Re: Temperature gauge..question..!
Yes. That's the wrong sender. That is a 12 volt sender for 1956 part number B6C-10884. It won't work. The part for yours is as shown and linked in my #3. Part number 8A-10884.

Re: Temperature gauge..question..!
The unit with 2 poles is a simple switch, not a sender of any kind. You can take it out of the circuit without effecting the gauge when hooked to the sender which has only 1 pole. Under certain conditions, the 2 pole switch sends the gauge to Hot by going to ground.

Re: Temperature gauge..question..!
Dear Friends!
Today I talked with the man who sold me this unit (12 volt sender for 1956 part number B6C-10884) the incorrect one. The seller will change this unit sender. I really did not noticed the difference as I trusted the seller, but evidently he knows less than me. One important question...my engine is at 12V, what could happen with the original unit sender at 6V? must I install any gauge voltage reducer?? I saw this in Mac´s parts. Old Henry! I really thank your time in posting such important info, thank again..! I will back with news..! Hary

Re: Temperature gauge..question..!
To know more precisely what my engine temperature was I added a mechanical gauge in the glove box that I could check when I wanted to. It monitors the left side of the engine while I have the stock electrical gauge monitoring the right side. See installation details here: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=88541

Re: Temperature gauge..question..!
Dear Friends!
Finally, I found the unit sender (2 prong), it has an "F" and 205 written on one side of it. The other unit has one prong and it has a 6 and KS written I must install a voltage gauge because my engine is 12V. I attach a pic. What do you think? Old Henry thank for share important info! I read all the article you posted. I ll be back with news and tell you how it work. Thank you all Hary

Once you get them hooked up through a voltage reducer they should work fine.

Re: Temperature gauge..question..!
The temperature gauge is automatically on "H" when there is no current to it. So, somewhere there is a break in the circuit. Use a test light or meter to check for current first at the terminal on the right side sender, both terminals of the left side sender, both terminals of the gauge, and on back to the battery. If you have current at all of those places the gauge should go to "C". If not, the sender is bad. If current is not at any test point you'll have to find the break in the circuit and fix it. The path of current is from the battery to the starter solenoid, to the horn relay, through the ammeter, to the circuit breaker, through the ignition switch, to the fuel gauge, through the temp gauge, through the left side sender, through the right side sender, to ground. See diagram:
