My wife says it's just a box. I say it's awesome
Found this 4 foot long shipping box last week at the fall Jefferson,Wi. auto show and swap. Will look good in the basement rec. room(1st floor above fireplace is off limits). My wife and her female friends don't get it, all my male friends think it's awesome. Have any Barn members found one of these before?

certainly a neat find , reminds me of when my ex wife got mad at me for putting my freshly polished Fenton intake an freshly built 97's in an empty shelf on her new curio cabinet. the divorce atty. even didn't understand, TOO BAD ! I just bought her a house and went on with my flatheads, built me a new shop and voila got a gal that loves me and my JUNK! all is well. I don't dare put any of my treasures in the house , built a shop big enough to keep the curio cabinet and cars both. Fordestes |

Re: My wife says it's just a box. I say it's awesome
Years ago I found an old concrete mixer with a Jaeqer hit and miss engine in it for $100. The engine was in near perfect condition with original paint. I tinkered with it and got it running. My wife asked what I was going to do with that thing. I told her I was going to clean it up and put it in the living room as a conversation piece.
It really looks better in my shop anyway...

Re: My wife says it's just a box. I say it's awesome
Years ago, I bought these two boxes at a farm auction in West Virginia for very little money.
One is for a Four Speed Ruckstell rear end for a Model "T" Ford truck. The other is a shipping crate for the brass top No. 6 Champion Spark Plugs. They are both in my living room ! I am single. I can tell that my lady friend does not understand, but she would not say anything bad about them. MIKE (mikeburch) |

The "Warner" in of Stewart - Warner is A.P. Warner, who invented the Speed O Meter. He built a large version of his invention and mounted it on the back bumper of his car, as a rolling advertisement of his Speed O Meter. It was sold as an aftermarket part.
A.P. Warner was quite adept with magnetism - and he also invented the first electric trailer brakes in S. Beloit, Wisconsin. He then applied this knowledge to make industrial electric brakes for lathes. From there, an entire product range of electric brakes and clutches for industrial applications. He teamed up with Stewart, and refused the offer of a royalty for his inventions, instead took a lump sum payment.

It's a carry over from childhood,if your like me as a kid I collected cigar boxes as I grew older my fixation with wooden boxes took on a life of it's own.
From apple crates with images of cars,to whiskey boxes with stamped labels and even old wooden machinist chest. It's a disease just like cars. HRP

Re: My wife says it's just a box. I say it's awesome
I like the old boxes too. I have read where early day pioneer furniture was often built from packing boxes and crates for want of sawn or 'boughten' lumber. I have reproduced quite a few pieces with packing boxes used with the stenciled side in for instance in a door panel. Also I dragged home the same jaeger hit and miss about 25 years ago. The house on the mixer really saves the original paint and the cement dust sealed the grease on too.

Is a 1920's Evinrude in the entry hall off topic?

Re: My wife says it's just a box. I say it's awesome
My wife bought me a nice oak/glass cabinet to display my Ford memorabilia in the living room. It was way too crowded with collections of oil cans, tire valve cores and the like. When we moved, I turned over the cabinet to her for her collections of Toby mugs, Carnival glass and such. My junk looks better in the garage anyway.

You are fortunate to have a wife that collects something. (I think). Over the years I have determined there are two types of people. Those that collect and those that have no idea why someone needs yet another tire ashtray or more tonner hubcaps than he has wheels or "a really nice set of front fenders" when he already has 4 sets.......If you have kids, they are getting it from both sides. Be careful!

Re: My wife says it's just a box. I say it's awesome
Your caution about the kids getting it from both sides is noted. They have each gone their own way on that. One has collections from his childhood, the other doesn't even save holiday decorations. No happy medium!
