It looks like either snow or polystyrene.

Bracket for the spare wheel? You can see the trough in the mudguard for the wheel.

Missing the dent in the door for spare tire clearance.

Re: What's that on the outside of this GAZ?
It is a spare wheel carrier bracket to hold a spare tire like on this GAZ:
This was a cost/time savings measure so that the fender did not need a cut out tire well nor did the door need a "dent" to accommodate the spare wheel. Brad in Maryland Last edited by Brad in Germany; 10-22-2019 at 02:53 PM. |

In the last photo notice the headlight with the metal hood on it. I wonder if that was to narrow the beam of light. I have noticed lots of GAZs with only one headlight. I suppose that was to save money to.

I'm curious what they did for heat on those trucks. Looks like an ambulance configuration and there's something on the exhaust pipe.

Quote:
Some of these War era AA Gaz were produced without full front fenders, sort of like Jeep fenders & even with canvas door coverings. That was to get as many out quickly into the front. Gaz are still remembered well for their part in the Great Patriotic War [ WW2] in Russia. |
