1935 Ford Film Negatives-Any Info ??
Several years ago I found this little metal canister labeled Ford Car Advertising. Inside was a roll of film negatives. I ran them through a film/slide scanner and discovered what appears to be a Ford commercial. Not sure if it's from a TV commercial or some sort of presentation piece maybe ? Its definitely 1935 and looks to be geared towards the female audience as the entire piece seems to be Ford encouraging woman to buy the all new 35' Ford Coupe with the "Soft Action Clutch". 104 pictures all together of Pretty cool stuff and its definitely near the top of the list of my favorite auto memorabilia. I haven't been able to find anything online about it so far and any info on it would be much appreciated.

Re: 1935 Ford Film Negatives-Any Info ??
You have one example of many Ford Filmstrips from 1935. Often these strips were combined with a record to give you both a visual and audio presentation. Many Ford dealers had a special darkened area in their show rooms to show a prospective buyer these great selling tools. There was a special filmstrip/record player that each dealer used for this presentation.
It seems that these filmstrip/records started in 1934 and continued into the 50s and 60s Frank Scheidt from the Early Ford Foundation in Auburn, IN. has put many of these promotional filmstrips/records on C.D.s and they are available from the Museum website http://www.fordv8foundation.org/ |

As a further note, many of these filmstrips were used for both training and customer presentations. Each package arrived in a cardboard carton containing both record and filmstrip. Each filmstrip came in its own protective metal canister. Later, complete training packages came with carrying cases for both filmstrips and records.

That’s very interesting!
I’d love to see the film in its entirety. Maybe someone has a link to the clip. |

I had a chance to buy a complete(?) set of records & film, with projector and player, as I remember, the guy wanted $250, big money for me back in the day. I passed on it for price and bulky size. Long walk to the car and I didn't have a wagon. Heavy stuff.

I wonder if they ever made any for my record player?
It was my dad’s, and his dad’s before him. |

The temptation is there to copy them and sell the copies. I would guess they are copywrited by the Ford Motor company and you could get in trouble doing it. If you don't want them maybe you could donate them to the Early Ford V8 Foundation and they could negotiate with the Ford Motor company to copy and distribute them.

Charlie, See my first post where I mention that most of these records and filmstrips have already been put on Cd's and are available at The Early Ford V-8 Foundation.
