Re: hood latch locked in position 39 pickup
there is a release lever built into the hood cross "T" it must have become separated or loose. when you close the hood this lever hits the brace behind the grill and allowed the handle to lock on outside, kept the hood from being closed with latch down in locked position

Re: hood latch locked in position 39 pickup
Clem a couple questions. Did it work before? Has this been dissembled? I have pitures of the latch somewhere and can take mine apart. Just getting context before.
Maybe some pictures if you can. If the "knub" off the radiator isn't lined up it won't latch. . |

Re: hood latch locked in position 39 pickup
The latch worked yesterday. now it lined up straight an won't turn. Is there a spring pushing the handle up over the stop?

Give him a menacing glare, put a muzzle on him, and say... SIT!

Re: hood latch locked in position 39 pickup
good idea. With the hood up the spring is close to my eyes. Years ago I found a sweet replacement and had not trouble installing it. I will wear safety shield and work carefully. Thanks

Did you remove the nut trying to open the hood? ;-)

Re: hood latch locked in position 39 pickup
I took the nut off and removed the handle. What next? I don't want to eat the spring

Re: hood latch locked in position 39 pickup
Which way is up for the disk? The bite out of the disk fits in the "squared bracket" facing forward?

Yes. I'm off for a couple days, less something comes up. I will take a bunch of pictures of mine Clem on the hood. Then take it apart and do the same. Hoods off the truck anyway and I need to get off my butt and strip it for paint. So that will motivate me and the pictures will remind me how to put it together. Mines a 38 but I think the mechanism is the same. We'll find out anyway. . |

Re: hood latch locked in position 39 pickup
Clem if wasn’t for this VIRUS you could come over here to Sunshine MD. And we could look at my 39 it works and does not look like it has been apart , the truck has never been restored .you know the stationary part that the latch engages must push the plate below the spring up to allow the handle to turn , I hope this helps some . I am sorry I can’t send pictures or help you more Maybe after this thing is over we can get together with our trucks BOB Sunshine

Re: hood latch locked in position 39 pickup
Clem I posted in another thread to your question. As there are multiple threads going on. Saw no answer. Did a quick search on the hamb, nothing useful that I could find. Probably didn't find the thread everyone is taking about and can't link it.
Be well!! https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63228 . Last edited by Tinker; 04-03-2020 at 09:35 PM. |
