Default 64 Galaxie heater core clip

I cannot remember how this clip anchored the open end of the heater core in place. I tried to install it and the force started to bend the top fin row. Just the cover could be enough but not sure. need help Thanks Rob

I don't see that strap in the PARTS ILL. Is the core the same size as the one that came out?
