I know that. Thanks.

Anybody else know the dwell setting?

Fred-
On my Dwell/Tach meter, there is a 6 cyl. scale and a 4/8 cyl. scale.

The dwell readings on the 4/8 cyl. scale of the meter are correct for a 4 cyl. engine as is.

It says on the meter and in the instructions that for an 8 cyl. engine, divide the dwell number shown on the 4/8 cyl. scale by 2. (If you want 30 degrees on a V-8, set it to read 60 on the 4/8 cyl. scale.)

Working this backwards, if you have a dwell meter with an 8 cyl. scale, I'd say you should double what you read when measuring a 4-cyl. engine. If you want 45 degrees dwell, you should read about 22 or 23 on the 8-cyl. scale. Same with RPM; double what you read on the 8-cyl. scale.

I hope this answers your question. If not, come back.

Be aware that the "A" distributor had less dwell than later 4-cyl. distributors because of the cam design. Cars of the era were still learning about such things.
