Speedometer weirdness
This is on the '48 F-1.
Lubed up the cable, which pretty much steadied the wagging speedo needle. Here's the deal though, with the truck sitting, parked, immobile, etc. the needle used to sit slightly below zero. This has been its behavior for the 5 years I've owned it. The needle now sits exactly at zero when the truck is parked. (Used the vehicle all day today and that was the behavior 95% of the time) Thoughts? |

Re: Speedometer weirdness
The speedo itself does require cleaning and lubricating. Your previous off-zero may have been an indication of sticky old lube, which freed itself somewhat with the bouncing from the cable. Just my opinion.

Re: Speedometer weirdness
Use a wire tie wrap to support the speedo cable so it can feed straight into the speedometer without bending due to it own weight. This takes the load off the cable and makes it work easier.

Re: Speedometer weirdness
That's a good thought. I'd use another 90-degree adapter on the speedo end but I've got too much cable length under the dash due to the loop....

Re: Speedometer weirdness
The speedo cable makes a fairly wide loop (which looks about typical to me)
and goes into the speedo. It's not a tight bend. I've too much cable length to run a 90-degree adapter..... I'd have to shorten it or do some pretty creative cable re-routing. |
