Datsun 8 plug distributor
I'm putting an 1984 Datsun 8 plug distributor in my Model A speedster with a model B engine and a Lion 8 plug head.
Question I have is has anyone done this and what their experience was with the advance. Did you use the vaccum advance, or take it out and go with the mechnical advance. Did you put different springs in? From what I can find out the basic advance is: 0 degress @ 650 rpm 7 degress @ 1345 rpm 10 degress @2100rpm The vaccum advance adds an extra 10 degress @ 10" of vaccum. A stock Model A needs about 20 degress, my motor with the modifications, CAM, head, valves etc. would probably need more. Anyone got any information on this? Thanks Ed |

Re: Datsun 8 plug distributor
Im running one on my 8 plug McDowell ohv . no problem, There was some discusion way back as too which plug of the two to fire 1st , as there is a 12 degree delay on the 2nd plug. Think its the exhaust side 1st but that depends on plug location, In my case its a x flow,I run the vaccum , I gathered up a few dissys & put away in case needed, as were only on a few engines out here for a short time, Hope this helps,

Z20, Z22, Z24 four cylinder dual plug engines. You can by buy a rebuilt distributor, cap and rotor from NAPA. There's a core charge if you don't have one to exchange. There's an article written in the SOS magazine that tells you how to modify it to work on the model A |
