Horn Button Disassembly?
Am having poor horn performance. It works just fine with direct connection to the battery. I am suspecting that there is dirt and/or corrosion in the horn button that is causing a poor connection to ground when I press said button.
Is there a procedure to remove the button for cleaning that does not require removing the horn rod from the steering column? If so, can someone point me to a description of the procedure? I've read a bunch of horn-related posts - some get close to describing what I'm looking for, just not quite there! Thanks much. |

Re: Horn Button Disassembly?
There are tabs, bent over, that hold the horn button and bezel in place on the horn rod; these tabs are not accessable unless the horn rod is removed. I personally don't think there is a way to remove unless the horn rod is removed. You might try removing the switch at the bottom of the column and check, with an ohm meter, to see for sure you do or do not have a good ground when the button is depressed. Sometimes the poor connection is at the end of the horn rod to switch connection.
Maybe someone else has a better solution ? Ron |

Re: Horn Button Disassembly?
Ron, that's very helpful. I'm guessing that one needs to be very careful with those tabs to avoid breakage....something easier done if the rod is on the bench. I do plan to check the lower end of the rod before removing same. Thanks much.

Re: Horn Button Disassembly?
Depending on the body style of your Model A you may not be able to remove the horn rod unless you disconnect the steering box from the frame and lower it to the floor. No problem with a roadster, just put the top down. I know that in a Victoria if you try to remove it you will end up putting a curve in it that won't go away.
