Have a fresh 255 merc built. Eab cast heads at 7.5 :1 comp. L-100 cam fenten cast iron headers and a Eddie-meyer duel hy-rise intake. I have four 94 style model 59 carbs. Hope to build two out of them. Will they be workable or should I bit the bullit and go with new 97s?

Re: carbs
tiq,
What ford3 said. OMO start with 3.5 power valves and 47 or 48 jets. Be absolutely positively sure the vac chamber is air tight with the bottom of the bowl and also that there is a positive seal between the power valve and the bowl. Ad nausium, I'll say again, vac leaks in the above areas will cause you fits. Charlie ny |

Re: carbs
It;s amazing how much we spend on esthetics. The 94 is a better carb.

Re: carbs
Hey Ron, You are absolutely correct about the 94 being a better carb., just not as "purdy." Had me or some other Pea-on said it though, would have been terrable.

Re: carbs
Went down to our local Lord co auto parts store to see about kits for the 94 carbs. Have the old one in hand because I am going to be lucky to find someone who knows what I`m looking for Walk up to the counter guy in his early fifties on my left young girl maybe 20 on my right. The guy is just finishing with someone but the girl says can I help you ? I'm thinking noway in hell are you going to know what this even is. I approach her need a carb kit for this old carb off a flathead ford. You can only imagine the look of bewilderment. Her response was " they make a kit for these" Yup! She takes the carb from my hands and walks over to the gentleman on my left and hands it to him . He has a smile on his face like it was gold and says 94 and in good shape. In minutes he had two kits that where cheaper but he claims has the leather accel pump ordered coming tomorrow and just to compare two kits from Edelbrock also with the good pumps but $10.00 more each than the previous two. And can get me the jets and power valves I need also. It was a great day . Will see what these look like tomorrow.

Re: carbs
A word to the wise. If your carburetors have the steel float needle, re-use them. More than likely the kits will have the rubber tipped ones.

Re: carbs
For the "94" I still like NAPA's best, but don"t use the 7.5 power valve that comes in their kit unless you're sure you really need that high of vacuum number.
