So maybe we can help???? This one came in a box ( actually left on my back porch with a note) Local guy , i had to write a ticket on it today and thought i would just go thru the motions of repair...... 1=Note says no-start 34 ford v8 2=Remove coil and machine test shows bright blue spark ? (good) 3=Put in tester , has eight arrows and 36 degrees of dwell (good) 4=Test condensor Tests good cold 5=Test condensor using heat gun ( fails with no condensor action) !!!!! Now what could we have done on the side of the road ??????? Tip....Make up a test condensor out of know good condensor ( i use a vertex magneto unit) put in glove box. When a condensor is suspected just remove the one hold down bolt from distributor and move ground tab out ward to not make a connection. The hook your test unit to a good engine ground and the other end to the power feed for the coil and hit the key. If it firs rightup then the condensor WAS your problem !!!!!!! I have started lot of no starts using this method (especially at the Newport hill climb) Only problem i have seen them the following year still with my test unit hooked up. The guy said Jim it worked so damn well i just couldnt take it off.....????????? In this case this will go to Terry and he will tear down clean, rebuild etc and i will assemble and test in a day or two........because thats what we do ...... |
