Default Transmission front seal (41 ford )??

I slightly bent the outer edge of the front Transmission oil seal. The seal is located within the throw out bearing and front bearing retainer.

The rubber seal and its inner steal spring are fine.

Do I need to replace or is it a non issue?

I know there not expensive but I want this done and would have to order it.

Impossible to say. Do you think you bent it enough to affect the sealing ability?
Only you can answer that and the answer then becomes obvious.
Not trying to be a smart-arse, but without a picture we are only guessing and if we guess wrong you would have a leak.
Safest answer is to say fit a new one while you have the opportunity.

Later designs did away with the seal and used a spiral groove. It's not a critical priority but then it's not hard to replace when the transmission is on the bench either.

The seal #78-7052 was used in conjunction with 78-7050 main drive retainer, which superseded the earlier design that ran the helical grooves.

The later design I stated was for the 1949 through early 51 Mercury that uses the same basic design gears as the 39 thru 48 transmissions. They evidently decided it wasn't a critical item at that point. I've not seen much if any leakage from the front of the retainer nose on the late transmissions that don't use the seal.
