Default 40 Headlight Bulb

I purchased new 6 volt headlight bulbs for my 40. When I attempt to install the bezel it hits the 3 tabs on the lens/face of the bulb which keeps the bezel from going flush against the fender. The old bulbs look as if the tabs have been sanded smooth with the lens allowing the bezel to lay flat against the fender and the lens of the bulb. Anyone else experienced this issue, does anyone make a correct bulb for a 40.

grind/sand off and polish the tab locations-not hard to do just keep it cool

I don't think you'll find the no tab bulbs. I carefully and slow ground the tabs off using water as a coolant. Go slow. These are halogens. I dod see some 7 in 6V halogen bulbs on Ebay. No tabs.

Thanks guys, figured sanding would be the solution. Couldn’t find any other bulbs without the 3 tabs doing a interweb search

Bob Drake used to carry the bulbs with no bumps.

Yes they do, just found them. I may go that route if these lens break when grinding the tabs off.

That's what I did. Backorder Bob's bulbs.

I used my bench grinder and took my time not to over heat the lens and ground each nib down. Bezels fit now with no interference.

The alignment tabs showed up about '52. V8 judges will ding you on concourse judging if you have those tabs too early. All early seal beams had no tabs and it is a judging point for all makes... Bob saved us there. His units have a Ford script. newc
