Re: NOSE crab distributor cap ???
Jim,
From what I’ve seen, noticed, and heard is that that style cap was originally used in production by ford for 1942. Later replacements and newer reproductions have the coil contact rib on the inside (if I worded that correctly) |

Re: NOSE crab distributor cap ???
They were a 1942 year only. Hotrodders liked the appearance, so they remain in circulation. It is sometime forgotten that the "crab" caps require the correct rotor, which is not the same as the other types.

Re: NOSE crab distributor cap ???
OEM '42 caps had no internal rib.
Most newer aftermarket caps have the internal rib, the exception being Bob Drakes version. IMO Drake's cap works well. I also have purchased NORS caps from E Bay without the inside rib. The internal rib cap is what breaks H&C rotors Last edited by 42merc; 09-30-2019 at 08:12 PM. |

Re: NOSE crab distributor cap ???
Out of curiosity are the Drake caps aluminum or brass contacts?

One thing to remember is the original design called for a paper gasket between the cap & dist body. Not using one, I believe leads to the common rotor/contact problem. Mac's used to include a cap gasket in their dist gasket kit, but it was a thick cork - composition material that did not fit well. If you are using the H&C dual coil conversion, then two gaskets are required. |
