Default 37 radiator mounting

Is the radiator supposed to sit on top of the frame or hang from it?

I have also seen someone has a kit to lower the radiator for better cooling?
Anybody know anything about that. What does it consist of?

Thanks

The radiator sits on top of the frame, with a rubber pad between. Can't imagine lowering the radiator will help much with cooling. The radiator needs to be fitted correctly to give the grille something to attach to.

radiator mounting kit comes with pad, bolt, spring.

So frame, then spring, then pad, then radiator with bolt going through them all in that order?

Sorry but was not assembled when I got the car. Trying to but things back correctly

Bob Drake sells the lowering kit

This kit is easy to use and is a must for every 1937 Ford. Lowering the radiator from its stock location vastly improves the looks of the engine compartment and also positions the radiator for better cooling efficiency. Necessary when using our radiator/grille air deflector. Includes instructions.

The pads lay on the cross member, then the radiator, then the spring on top of the radiator brackets with the head of bolt at the bottom with the shank pointed upward through the cross member etc. and the slotted hex nut and cotter pin on the top.

Have the radiator rodded out before you reinstall. You'll be glad you did.

My 1937 functions perfectly without lowering the radiator.
And my engine compartment looks great in stock configuration.

Yes, at the minimum have it back-flushed and pressure tested. Also, if you're getting the engine redone, clean as much of the core sand, rust, scale and crud out of the water jackets as possible. I chipped, chiseled and vacuumed out at least five pounds of crap from the engine block in my 1936 sedan.

DavidG, the bolt goes in the top of the spring with the nut and cotter pin on the bottom, as least for 36 Fords according to the Ford Chassis Book.

Thanks

DavidG is correct. The nut goes on top.

Thanks everybody.
Yes had it rodded out. Unfortunately went to pull the pipe plug out of the bottom to put in a petcock drain and the whole female thread part just spun inside of the bottom tank.
So back to radiator shop tomorrow.

Sometimes it seems this car does not want to get back on the road.

Radiator installed...
The nut threaded all the way down till ran out of threads, not much collapse of the spring and the cotter pin hole is way above the castellated nut. Does that sound correct?

Assembly seems incorrect with cotter above nut. how long is the bolt? For 37 Pass the bolt is 22266-S it is 3/8-24 X 1-3/4"

Sounds like the bolts are too long, but it's not likely that the radiator will move unless "way above" is more than 3/16".

Thanks, the bolts were too long. 2 1/8"

More quality repro parts.
