Default wheel cyl kits and Master cyl kits

Where can you buy good 39-48 repair kits? A good kit should have the cyl boots as well as cups.

I can't speak with confidence for your Ford, but wheel cylinder rebuild kits were among the few things for my '47 Lincoln I was able to pick up at my local NAPA auto-parts.

I'd sure check NAPA first.

Unless you have the tools, such as the hone, you are better advised to replace the cylinders. It is difficult to hone out the pits in the cylinder to the point where the rubber cups will not seep. If your system is old enough to require cylinders to be rebuilt, it is likely that the hoses and copper washers are also past their prime. Single circuit brakes are dangerous if all parts are not in top condition.

With all due respect, as I recognize your experience is masterful. To say the least... Never have I known of a cylinder rebuild not involving the honing process. True that pits are a hazard if not eliminated, but it's worth the effort, rather than winding up with the screwed up pieces ( cylinders) that offered today.

When I was younger, I always rebuilt my wheel cylinders, then it was easier to just replace them; which was nearly 50 years ago. Now getting good parts is a dice roll.

I've a honer looking for a home which hasn't been used since my last cylinder rebuild a century or so back. Cheaper in time and money to buy new nowdays. Cylinders that it.

Tom: the reason I recommend replacement over honing is that when replacement cylinders were scarce years ago, we had to hone them. It is difficult to inspect the entire bore for evidence of pitting, which can be substantial. We had many that leaked in spite of careful honing. Those with deep pockets usually opt to have the cylinders sleeved. In vehicles with non-dual systems, you can't be too careful, as loss of braking can produce disaster. We buy ours from C&G and all have been good quality.

I agree with the above. Trying to save money here is like buying a cheap parachute or fire extinquisher. Buy good quality cylinders or have the old ones resleeved.
