great idea Ken, never thought of that. it was pushing oil out when I had the pump rod in however. I removed it to let the motor breath better.

sounds like a great idea J. can I ask how is that plug is held in there? did you thread and tap? hopefully there's an easier way..

The vent goes right through the oil pan flange. The pan gasket sometimes fails on the inside of the crank case where it seals that vent port on the pan rail. You won't see the damage to the gasket unless you remove the oil pan.

Press fit, there is no pressure on it. I added a hole for a safety wire, but don't think it is really required. This type of plug is required on 8ba engines, but shouldn't be on a 59a. But that is going to depend on the bushing installed in the 59a or if the bushing is missing. If it is missing there would be a major oil press drop to the bearings.

gonna try a few more things before I take off the pan, but thank you for explaining that so well. I would have never guessed or known.
