Default Oil slinger or rear main seal ?

I have a '39 -'40 85hp V8 in a '37 coupe . It leaks oil in the rear of the engine . Does this engine have a slinger , or an actual rear main seal ?
I have read that if your early Ford V8 does not leak oil , then there is something wrong w/it . Well , mine leaks , so does that mean that mine is ok & normal ? I recall seeing pics of these cars in dealer showrooms w/drip pans under them !
Thanks in advance - FF

Your engine came with a slinger and yes, oil leaks are pretty common.

Increased pressure inside the engine will blow oil around the slinger.

81A motors and up had a rope seal in the rear main. Also a slinger to take some oil load off the seal. At least that is what I have always found.

Rope seals didn't come out untill 46, all earlier had the slinger, if you over fill the oil it will leak bad. Walt

That's not an oil leak, it's horsepower sweating.
