Default Cam Core Measurement

A favor please!! To those who have original grind cams on the shelf, could you measure the height from the casting to the heel for me please. I'm trying to make go-no-go gauges for different parts but am not sure of the measurement to tell the difference between an original or regrind for early and/or late cams. Very much appreciated!!

Lonnie

Lonnie, I see that no one has taken their time to try and help you. I have some stock early 21 stud, some stock 59's and maybe one stock 8ba cam that I can measure for you. Just to be sure which of the above cams would you want me to take a measurement on? Also, to be sure, do you need the dimension from the outer surface of the center area of the stick to the bottom of the heal. Would a measurement with a dial caliper be ok or are you looking for something more precise? Let me know and I'll get some numbers for you.

John, thanks for taking the time to do this!! 59 and 8BA are all I'm looking for. Just the height of the heel from the casting. My goal is to be able to quick-pick grindable cores without lugging measuring tools around with me. Thanks again!!

Lonnie, I don't think this measuerment is going to help you much. The part of the cam between lobes is just rouff casting, I'm sure no 2 would be alike. Also most reground cams have been cut down between the lobes. Good luck. Walt

A more important measurement would be the diameter of the bearing journals. Worn journals= low oil pressure.

If you want to measure the base circle, measure the outside (diameter) of the lobe... The casting will not be very accurate... If you want that, I've a bunch of both cores, allmost all original and aftermarket (stock) cams- and will measure a few for you...

Karl, That would be great. Thanks!! 59's and 8BA's are what I'm after.
