Steering Column Support Question

Getting ready to put the steering column back in my 31 CCPU and I purchased a steering column support bracket that goes to the dash rail from Snyder's. My question is, should I use both the old one and this one? I have no leaks or problems with the old one and figured this one would add additional support, but in searching through threads here it looks like folks either use one or the other and not both?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Try it and see if you really can use both of them. Do they line up in that config? Bet they don't. There are several actual lengths of the later support that changes angles due to seat config.
If your tank is not leaking, I would use only the support that attaches to the upper structure. The stress on the tank mount is often what caused leaks around the bracket.

I guess I'll check it out when the part arrives. So you're experience has been to use the dash rail support only?

I installed one in my 30 Tudor and just removed the rubber "bushing" from the original mount and made sure the steering tube did not touch the original mount. I wanted to take no chance that vibration would crack the tank and create misery down the road.

I made a mistake in my initial post, my truck is a 1930 CCPU not 1931. Should I still not install it and may I ask why?

The idea of installing your new support is so you can remove the old one and lessen the chances of a fuel leak at the tank where the old one attaches. Just remove the lower part of the support.

The original mount can cause stress cracks in the tank. I understand that's why Henry went to the new style steering bracket that is not attached to the tank. Gas leaks in the cab can be hazardous to your health.

I have heard many say for years that a big contributing cause of the leaks is guys grabbing onto the steering wheel for leverage in getting in and out of the car. I have had 2 different Model A's over the years and never had a leak problem, but I am careful not to use the wheel as an aid....

Don't use the original style lower clamp with the later upper style as you will get more vibration and crack the lower clamp area of the tank. I left the lower clamp in place but removed the rubber strip and made sure the column didn't touch the clamp.
