RcT I think you may have found a new nitch. Finding old iron and matching to a good owner. "Ford matchmaker .com" ????
If I saw another car as nice as this, with the chop saw waiting for it, I would do the same thing again. I'm an ebay junkie and check out the listings daily. Rarely do I buy anything, just window shop.

RcT, thank you for letting the world know of this car and caring enough to try to save it. My hat is off to you sir. I have been looking on Fleabay, Craigs List, Old Car Trader and Hemmings for about two years. The money, ability to go get it and general timing just never seemed to work out. Till now!
As for the wheel paint, the color may be correct but the application, I'm told, is horrible. Something about a six year old with a paint brush! I guess we'll see. I'll need the help of all of the wisdom of this forum to guide me to keep this car as original as possible. I'll post pictures as soon as it's at the house.
Thanks for the atta boys and support,

way to go looking forward to seeing the new paint on the wheels. my own AA truck is now coming back together and getting road worthy , its been a couple of years in the making, ive kept it original with the requisite patched and such but faking out the paint to match the old stuff. theres nothing like it as far as saving em and getting them back on the road, takes time and $$ but the road is the reward.

Outstanding Paul and Richard. I'd love to have that car in my garage. I'm sure it has found a great home and you'll do it right. It definitely has that survivor look and should be kept as is but that's your call. You only have original once, right? We love pictures. Congrats Paul!

ALRIGHT!! Just goes to show folks CAN make a difference!

Mal - congratulations on the purchase and thanks for stepping up and saving this survivor! And the wheels shouldn't be a big deal - just take the tires off (probably need new ones anyway), media blast the wheels, and squirt the color of your choice.

RcT - you also deserve a big round of applause! This likely wouldn't have happened without your efforts. And pay no attention to "the sound a Model A Ford car horn makes" forum. It's suffering the fate that this car narrowly avoided - the philistines are cutting it up.

...and a thank you to all of you who responded positively to me. Believe it or not, I also got an earful from the rod guys. I don't care, I would do it again.

One small step for antiques, one giant step for Model A's!

That's the best news I've heard in a long time.

Lets not forget to thank the seller for giving the Model A people the opportunity to keep one stock.

Ya know, maybe I'm just cynical but that occurred to me in this case. The owner tried to sell the car, but no takers. So he advertised just the chassis but with pix of the car still intact. Seems to me, if he was serious about rodding it, he would have pulled the body (a quick job for a couple guys in a rod shop) and posted pix of the chassis. Wonder if the message between the lines was "you restorers better buy this survivor or I'm gonna cut it up"?

Whatever, it got saved - that's what counts.

I purchased the above mentioned Model A. Had a couple of phone conversations with Mac and looked at some more photos that he sent and decided this was the car for me. For some reason it spoke to me. The mechanics will be restored so as to be driven on a regular basis. The rest will remain as is. I'm told this car has been parked in a barn since 1948. It was driven in parades till about 1979. Been sitting since. It's all there, unmolested except for the awful green repaint on the wheels.
I'm near Atlanta, Georgia and the car is in Iowa. Will be leaving Friday morning to bring it home. I'm so excited I can't stand it! Been a long time dream. Pictures to follow.
Mal
Mal,

Well, word has it you have the car back in Georgia. I, for one, would like to see some pictures. Thank you for rescuing this car.

I think rat rods are dying. I hope they are. I do not understand the connection between hot rods and tattoos either. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A TATTOO THAT LOOKS BETTER THAN PLAIN SKIN. None of the older hoodlums in my neighbor hood had tattoos. Some WW11 vets had tattoos and most of them said they wished they would not have done it.

A rather large girl that is a clerk at the local convenience store has a bunch of tattoos. I wonder what they will look like when she drops 100 to 125 pounds or when she is 65.

Mal,
the photos on eBay are GONE, please post some when you get home with it.

there used to be a Model A club in Griffin and there are currently several in N. Ga, so there are plenty of local bubbas to help you if needed.

please keep us in the loop!

Howdy WRA. Got the car running and rolling under its own power the day after Thanksgiving, 2011. It would go but sure would not stop! Spent the next month fighting fossilized grease. Lots of scraper and wire brush time. Found very little of anything worn out or rusted. Pulled the engine to adjust the bearings and replace a chattering clutch plate. Had to replace the head. Cracked over the #2 cylinder. Installed new valves, guides and adjustable lifters. Replaced a cracked two blade fan. Have not touched the transmission or differential. Everything on the car now works. It's been driven just over three thousand trouble free miles as of today. Needs a engine rebuild as it sounds like the pistons are trying to swap holes, but it runs. Gotta put a top on it. The wood header has turned to dust. Afraid if I open the windshield it will fall off!
Please go to youtube and search for Model A Preservation by Zippo for a short video of the car, made Christmas day, 2011. Sorry, don't know how to link it.
Thanks for asking.
