1933 Ford Front Spring Perch -Original
Several months ago, I was fortunate to become the next caretaker of a '33 3 window coupe. This car hadn't been out of the garage in 41 years. When checking out my new family member, I discovered that the axle, wishbone, and spring perches had been welded together. I've disassembled the front suspension and discovered that the perches are badly worn and need to be replaced. I've found reproduction '32 versions, as well as 1935/48 versions, but none labeled as fitting a '33. The photos of the '32 versions appear similar to the '33 versions. Will the '32 versions work (my car still has the original style front shock absorbers)? Or, is there a source for replacement '33 versions and I've just not found them?
Thank you for your advice and assistance. |

It sure does look like a '34 in the two pictures you posted....

Re: 1933 Ford Front Spring Perch -Original
Depending on how the originals are worn, they can sometimes be repaired by building up with weld and remachining back to stock dimensions. I have done it myself a couple of times, including a repair to a damaged end to the threaded portion. If the pin area is worn there is a fair chance the hole in the axle is also wallowed out oversize too. same for the tapered parts of the wishbone. All can get worn by loose pins and all can be effectively repaired given the right skills and equipment.

The '32 and the '33-'34 spring perches are not the same. The spring eye is slightly higher on the '33-'34 version so the two types need to be used in pairs, otherwise your car won't sit level in the front. |

Re: 1933 Ford Front Spring Perch -Original
Thanks for the correction David, I assume that is why the part number changed
from B-3030 to 40-3030. Are there any reprints of the early V8 Service Letters? Last edited by Bob C; 02-09-2019 at 02:20 PM. |

A few years back BOB DRAKE had a flier about a repop. I dont know if he ever made them or just testing the waters for interest.

Bob,
The 1932, 1933, and 1934 Service Bulletins were reprinted in their original 8 1/2" x 11" format some years ago and still may be. They show up often on ebay and on Amazon, usually inexpensively. There was a smaller (1/2 size) reproduction of all of the U.S. Service Bulletins for 1932 through 1937. I recommend all three of the former as there is useful information for a '34 owner in all three. Last edited by DavidG; 02-09-2019 at 03:24 PM. |

This car has been garage kept since new. I’m it’s fourth owner. It’s never had rust or even a door ding. |

The car’s original owner swapped the hood & grill out in favor of ‘34 versions, prior to parking the car in 1946.

Service letters have not been reprinted. The original used 33-34 spring perch bolts do show up especially on ebay but look them over closely because they usually have major problems. The 33-34 perch bolts are usually embossed with the part number.

Re: 1933 Ford Front Spring Perch -Original
The service letters have never been reproduced commercially for the period in question, the same for the general letters to dealers and the letters to the assembly plants.
Copies of the former that exist come from the files of dealers who did not clean out their files periodically (thank goodness!) or from Ford's archives in the case of all three types of letters. |
