Default when was the first 1930 model A made?

I have a 1930 model A it has a build date in november 1929. I am wondering what number was the oldest 1930? And how early ford was producing the cars of the next year?

What is the frame or motor number, not the tank date?

Well, I have an engine build date of 11/13/29, if that is the frame number. I believe the eyebrow fenders were a very small production. Now, as for the first date of cars for 1930 built, I have no information on that.

My 30 Tudor is a early car, A2625026 verified frame number, mid Nov. '29 engine.

Might go back to see when they started claiming model year. Modern times October is the new model year - so this year 2018's will be starting to sell in October - on.

Engine production was ahead of vehicle production in all years except 1928.

Your build date is probably the engine number and as Lindy mentioned, and in the Restoration Guideline there is up to a 90 day variance on the engine being installed. In your case the engine could have definitely been built in 1929 and then installed in a car in early 30. Then the engine has probably been replaced at some time.

since the car is in such good shape I dont see myself ever confirming the frame number. I figure the fenders and re use of the old dash confirm the number a bit. I didnt think about it being stamped when put in the frame and sitting at ford or at briggs before it was complete.

The FIRST 1930 Model A Fords were built in November 1929:

Standard Coupe: 1
Tudor Sedans: 39
Fordor (2-W) Sedan: 14 (170-B)
Standard (3-W) Sedan: 31 (165-C and D)
Town Sedans: 76
Cabriolet: 3

From Ford's November 1929 Assembly Record Type document.

More than likely they were assembled in Dearborn.

Mike,

Review my 1930-31 Gas tank article and see if you have the very earliest type of 1930 gas tank.

It is on my website under Additional Stucies. http://www.plucks329s.org/pdf/gastan...31gas_tank.pdf

Also, what is your assembly plant code and number on the body itself?

Pluck

There is no tank date on 30-31 tanks.

No Pluck, but there are tank dates on the tanks assembled in 1929, which he could have which would give him a better idea. Are you sure the stamping of the tanks was finished and done for before Nov '29? Since he seems to have an early build '30 there is a good possibility that it has a stamped '29 tank.

I think your question is best answered with factory photos if they are dated. I am sure that the photographers were making photos for advertising as soon as the 1930 vehicles became available. All of the photos I have seen have photo numbers on the front but no dates. The Benson research center may have the dates.

True but the latest date that we have recorded is in September 1929...after that the dates seem to stop. (Would like to know if any later tanks have showed up) The dates on the tank were when the tank itself was assembled and tested...not the build date of the body. However if a tank was dated, say 07-06-29 for example, and if the tank was applied to a body in Dearborn, that could very well be the case.

But if that same tank went to say San Francisco or Seattle or Jacksonville or Houston...there may be a 2-3 week span there before that 07-06-29 tank was assembled to a body.

The tanks on the 1930 vehicles were very much different than the 28-29 tanks. I am sure you know this...I hope. However the 1929 tank did continue into 1930 on commercial vehicles only until about June 1930 when the new commercial body styles were introduced along with the 1930 style tank.

View my article on the tanks on my website.

Mikes car, if it is the one he is talking about, is a 165-D (Briggs) so I highly doubt that it has a 1929 tank on the car.

You are 4000 cars closer to having the first 1930 model A
