Default Columbia Guys ?

When at a stop light with the car running, my idle speed increases when I depress the clutch. I have traced it to a vacuum leak within the Columbia shift tank. I assume the leather seals are shot. Who makes a good replacement? I have disassembled it already and put some red grease on them but I am still getting the rpm fluctuation.

John Connelly @ Columbia 2 speed Parts is a great source. I use Neat's Foot Oil (used to waterproof leather boots) to soften and lube the original leather discs in the shift can. Works well on 40 convert top cylinders too.

Make sure your vacumn can is not pitted on the inside. Do not uae grease. Use needsfoot oil on the leather seals. You could also have a vacumn valve leake.

Beside the diaphragm there is a shaft seal. Not only does the cylinder have to be pit free the shaft has to also.

I use Marvel Mystery Oil to soak and lube leather Columbia seals - works well and last long in the can

The small shaft seal can be bought locally. When it leaks you will usually see rear gear oil in the cylinder. The only thing I found that works on the leathers is MMO. Everything else including neadsfoot oil get gummy and the shift is not crisp. I have 18 Columbia's and tried all types of oils. Make sure you have at least 3/8" ID hoses, fittings and tubing. G.M.

And I solved my leak problem by using hose clamps at each rubber hose end.
