Re: What revs at 60MPH
I work on modern cars, next time you are stopped in traffic and there are cars on each side, in front, and back one of those cars has a much more serious problem than old near bald tires ---- tires, suspension, brakes that the owner knows about and declined the repair ---tires showing 2 layers of cord, inch or more play in ball joint ---siezed brake calipers, rusted brake pipes with one line crimped off ----I see this work declined every day, but the radio, sunroof get fixed!

That is similar to what I have heard... At 50 MPH my engine is at 2200 RPM. (Using Tach and GPS). Last edited by Ruth; 11-03-2019 at 11:21 AM. |

Re: What revs at 60MPH
You would also need to consider 28-28 vs 30-31 (21" vs 19") wheel diameter, as the rolling diameter of the tire will have an impact on speed at any given RPM with the same ratio rear

40 to 45 is an enjoyable speed, but you need to find some good Wisconsin roads for that. Too many fool drivers in Minnesota. |

Re: What revs at 60MPH
According to Lucas Classic Tires a 28/29 tire (4.40/4.50-21) is a ¼" taller than a 30/31 tire (4.75/5.00-19). I don't think you would see much impact.

My Truck had 4.11, could not keep up with others, so had 3.54 installed. I like a relaxed slower pace and drive anywhere from 30 - 45 mph max. Live in a small town of about 20,000 people in Wisc, stay away from Interstates, busy state and county roads as much as possible. I tense up and do not enjoy those roads. Some times go out exploring, getting lost, and use Google Maps on my cell phone to find my way home. |

Re: What revs at 60MPH
I like this website for calculating RPMs and speed at a given RPM. http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html
Like others, I don't think I'd want to cruise at 60 for many reasons. I did see if my car with it's new engine could do it and yes, it can do 65 but I didn't keep it there more than 30 seconds. In my rural area cruising at 50-55 is safely doable and my car seems perfectly happy to do it. That's about 2200-2400RPM. |
