Default Build date

I have a 1928 Tudor. I've seen where there is or can be a build date in the gas tank. Is this only on some of them and where is it located. I have three different gas tanks and haven't found a build date on any of them. Thanks. Jim

I've read where the date is stamped on the tank assembly, directly above the steering column, just above the bolted together seam. It's on the engine side of the tank assembly. Mine is a little outboard of that location, just above the seam..but also I've seen that not all tanks were stamped..

"MAYBE" some tanks were replaced when OEM tanks were still available?

Not all have the dates on the firewall, but most have them.

Dates on gas tanks generally started in May of 1928 and went through about September 1929. The date represents the build date of the Gas Tank only. Although some have reported earlier and later dates but have never provided any photo.

Yes, within this time frame, there are tanks with no date.

Thanks Mitch for directing those who want to know to my site about the gas tanks.

Thanks to Steve and all who responded. Steve has a lot of information as do a lot of other guys. As a new owner of a model A and with all the drama I sometimes read, I want to thank the guys who really have taught me what little I know. I will pass what I have learned on to the newer guys. If I ever stick my foot in my mouth or offend anyone please accept my apology and know it was unintentional Sincere thanks
