Default 6 volt jumper cables?

Is there any such thing as a jumper cable that you can put on a 12 volt battery and it will reduce the voltage to 6 volt, so you can jump start from a 12 volt to a 6 volt?

Never heard of such a thing but you can jump 12 volts directly to the starter motor.

They are not needed so long as you understand a little sparky .One cable to earth and one to the cable on the starter side ,Use the earth to make the contact ,

Just use positive to positive, negative to negative, ans leave everything but ignition switched off so you don't fry a radio or pop a bulb. Works fine.

Years ago, I saw someone jumping a Model A with a 12V battery and a piece of #12 romex with big alligator clips. The insulation on the romex was melting and smoking!

PS: You want to make your last connection on a ground. Making that connection on the battery itself (either one) could ignite some Hydrogen gas which would likely be present.

I remember jump starting my 55 Ford with one piece of wire. We just touched the bumpers together for the ground.
Can't do that any more with these plastic cars.

Just jumped a 6V with 12V. We put one cable on the POS post on both cars. Then we put the other cable on the 6V NEG Post. Hit the starter button on the 6V car and touched the other end to the chassis..... NOT THE BATTERY.... of the 12V car. It spun pretty quick and started up. Disconnected the cables immediately. Jumping 12 to 6 is for a really quick jump.....not for grinding the 6V starter until you kill the 12V. The 6V car should be ready to go before you jump it. You should KNOW you have fuel, compression and spark and have already tried the 6V battery by itself. I have a 6V/12Vbattery charger with a START position that puts out more current to jump start. I prefer that before a "jump". I remember my uncle jump starting my Dad's 54 Chevy with his new 55 Buick. That's the way they did it then.

Here's a thread where it's hashed out. It starts a little slowly but picks up.

https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...=jump+starting

Also Old Henry posted a thread, I couldn't find it easily, about a road trip he did this past winter in frigid temperatures. There's a great photo of his three posts from the end of the above thread showing a great way to do it.
