Default 6 volt horns

hey guys, iv converted my ol 50 F1 to 12 volts, can i use the 6 volt horn ?
i tested it and it seams pretty loud, i wonder how long it will last..
so, am i suppose to wire the horn direct with fused power, and use the ground in the column to actuate it ?
is that how it works ?
thanks

I am using the 6 volt horns on 12 volt. I do not hold down the horn for very long. A couple blasts and it is heard. If you are concerned you can wire the horns in series than each will be working on 6 volts.

I LOVE the early F1 horns on 12V! They are 'freight train' loud! I've bought a few sets of them and used them on other cars even. Use the 6V horn relay and don't hold the horn down for long. The 12V relays don't have as good contacts and will stick on - you'll get god at yanking the wire off the relay and/or horn after a bit if you use the 12V relay.

Alternatively, you can use a heavier relay that's wasn't originally a horn relay - even those cube relays are typically rated at 30A, which should be more than enough.

To wire them in series, you'd have to isolate one from ground. Doable. But they're so much nicer in parallel!
