Just replaced one on a customers car. Buy the new camshaft nut one with a hex, lot better than that original that needs a special tool. This car came in somewhat apart, wonder how it sounded with the cam shaft plunger installed backwards? Bob

When changing a timing gear it is a good idea to loosen the four mounting bolts (two on each side) that mounts the engine to the original solid rear motor mounts. You have to remove the front motor mount and jack the front of the engine up to be able to remove the front timing cover. With the rear mounting bolts tight it puts a strain on the flywheel housing that can result in distortion and cracks around the two bottom bolt holes where the flywheel housing bolts to the back of the engine.

If you have floto-motor rear motor mounts installed just back the nut off of the vertical bolt that runs through each mount.

My boyfriend used an air chisel to get it off our 28 he bought me for our anniversary. Had to go purchase a new nut cuz it was chewed from the previous owner too. Finally got it together and got her running again. Gerty lives again.
