Early Ford Shocks 32'
So i have 3 shocks from a 32. I have 2 from a later ford. I think i might have more for a 32 somewhere...? I was considering sending these in for cores and get rebuilt ones. Bill Stipes sells a manufactured from scratch a shock for a model "A". I was maybe considering those as well but not sure if because they are model "A" if they would just bolt on and go or not, but would rather get the originals rebuilt or send them in for cores. What do guys recommend?

Re: Early Ford Shocks 32'
I recently had a set of the "NEW" Model a shocks in here.. They are VERY VERY nice. The difference between a Model A shock and a 1932 Shock is very subtle (roughly 1/4" in height).
On a 1932 Pickup I had, the 32 shocks needed rebuilding and I installed Model A shocks, as it was not a point judged vehicle. It performed just fine. On my 1932 Phaeton a realized it had one Model A shock and three 1932's and in the 7 years I have owned it I only noticed that recently.. FYI just my experience I would not use Apple Hydraulics. |

Re: Early Ford Shocks 32'
As Michael wrote, the difference between an early manually-adjustable '32 four-cylinder shock and a late Model A shock is a 1/4" height difference reflecting the former's larger capacity (and the back side is cast differently, but once attached to a frame that difference evaporates). In other words, they are interchangeable when 100% authenticity is not a criteria.
You did not mention if the three shocks you have are the early Model B manually-adjustable version or the self-adjusting type first used only on '32 V8s and then on all '32 passenger car and commercial vehicle chassis. Either way, if you decide to have them rebuilt, I highly recommend Andrew Falandes for the task at [email protected]. |
