Re: Ethanol-Free Gas Stations
Should this be posted on Steve Plucker's Model A and AA list of web sites?

Re: Ethanol-Free Gas Stations
Your welcome. However, I feel the need of a disclaimer.
I believe the administrator of the website has good intentions, however I have no way of verifying the accuracy of the information. Interesting note from the site: "But how do I know if a particular gas and grade is ethanol-free? In most states, stations are required to label the pumps if they contain ethanol over a certain percentage, which varies by state but is usually 1 percent. A few states have no labeling requirement, and you just have to ask someone at the station that knows what goes in the tanks. State-by-state labeling requirements are listed at fuel-testers.com. Ultimately, you only REALLY know if the fuel is ethanol-free if you test it yourself. Inexpensive fuel-testing kits are widely available, or you can add fuel to a well-marked level of water in a small jar, at around a 10:1 fuel:water ratio, shake well, let settle for a few minutes, and see if the water level has risen. If it has risen, it has combined with ethanol from the fuel." It's a shame the ingredients of what we purchase and put into our expensive vehicles are not posted at the pump!

Re: Ethanol-Free Gas Stations
In addition to the web site, there is a free app for iPhone (and I believe android) that will search for ethanol free gas wherever you are in the U.S. App name is "PURE GAS". There may be other apps for the same purpose. Not sure about Europe, Christoph. I found locations near me that I was not aware of. It costs more, but considering the mileage I drive my A, its not too bad.

Re: Ethanol-Free Gas Stations
Be sure and check with the station before you pump the gas. Two stations on that list in my area were not alcohol free. Luckily I asked before I filled up. The were both Pure Oil stations. They said they sold only gasohol for years.

All the gas in Alaska is now "real gas" (ethanol free).

Re: Ethanol-Free Gas Stations
Apparently the use of 15 % ethanol has been given the green light, the masses will have problems if this crap is used, I'll check again, but last time only one station an hour away sold real gas, hope the list grows around here but not likely.

Re: Ethanol-Free Gas Stations
We can't just pick up av gas anymore here. The road tax isn't paid on av gas,so we're not supposed to use it on the road.We always could get a little there if we wanted but something happened. The guy there told me if he doesn't know you have a plane at home you ain't hauling any gas out in cans. The little he told me made it sound like he had gotten a warning about it.There is no straight gas available here now. There was a station on the booze-free list,he gets pretty mad when people tell him he is on the list.He has no idea how he got on it,his gas is no different than anybody else's.There were some boat yards supposedly selling straight gas,but they wouldn't pump in a vehicle either.I have no idea if they are still selling it now anyway.

Re: Ethanol-Free Gas Stations
Ethanol free gasoline is labeled as " Below Standard Grade Gasoline" right on the pumps in South Dakota. The poor corn harvest because of the drought has made ethanol gasoline in short supply.
I think ethanol gasoline will have a short life when people realize that is a big joke. |

Re: Ethanol-Free Gas Stations
Here in Washington State I have obtained cards for two commercial fuel distributors that serve the truckers through MASCO Petroleum. The distributors are Pacific Pride and CFN; they are card lock fueling networks, most of them unmanned. MASCO Petroleum now will accept small volume users. You apply for an account and you get a membership card like a credit card and you can purchase at their unmanned stations. They bill you monthly, and there is no price on the pumps. The non-ethanol fuel is about 20 cents higher than commercial station cost for unleaded ethanol gas. I obtained my cards through MASCO Petroleum in Aberdeen WA.
Hope this helps Here are some links Masco home page http://mascopetroleum.com/ Pacific Pride Home page http://pacificpride.com/ Pacific Pride station locater http://pioneerfuel.com/Locations.htm CFN home page http://www.cfnnet.com/ CFN station locater http://www.cfnnet.com/locations_01.html

Re: Ethanol-Free Gas Stations
No ethanol gasoline in SD is cheaper than ethanol gasoline. Gasoline without ethanol is considered sub grade. This is all politics. Label the good stuff sub standard and the corn gasoline as standard. Ninety per-cent of the propane produced in the US is made into fertilizer to grow corn. To make fertilizer out of propane takes energy. Then it takes a lot of energy to produce ethanol from corn.
I am sure that people will say stop this goofy program. It will take a few years. |

Re: Ethanol-Free Gas Stations
What are the disadvantages of using ethanol gas in a Model A? We use straight ethanol/methanol in our race engines as it burns cooler, reduces knock, and provides 15-20% HP increase when tuned properly. Obviously I don't care to make more power in the A but I'm curious why everyone is against it. I know the disadvantages is that is burns faster and can dry rot rubber over time but I don't see this being an issue on the A?? Thanks.
