Default original lubricant for tool kit greasegun

I'll bet a lot of us have wondered this. Do people feel that the little grease gun that came with the tool kit was meant to use a more semi-solid lubricant than common cup grease? The instructions seem to intimate so and many of us have seen pictures of the old lubricant advertising charts hanging in dealer shops with numerous little bottles of different grease attached.
