Default Not for sure of what rearend on car

I recently bought a 1929 Model A which was used as a rodeo clown car and did wheelies and donuts while doing the wheelie. I am not for sure what kind of rear end it has. It is built like the old model A's except beefier. The fellow that smoothed the drums for me said it was off a truck because it has the D brake pads. The rear end also has 2 adjustment disc for the rear brakes on each side. One for the front pad and one for the back pad. They are also hydraulic. Does anyone know what year, the kind of truck and how to adjust the rear brakes? Thanks in advance.

With the 2 adjusters it sounds like you may have Huck brakes. They were used on I believe 1936 thru 1950 Chevy and had enclosed drive shaft torque tube.

If the adjusters are a hex head then it sounds like it has an eccentric on the inside. Is so, then turn the hex until the drum locks up, then back off just enough to rotate the drum.

PICTURES. My guess from your brief description would be you have a later (1933-48) Ford rear end. Go here and see if anything looks familiar: http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_home.htm. Let us know what you have and someone will find the adjusting instructions.

Charlie, from that site it seems like it might possibly be a 1948 car rear end. That is going by the diagrams for the brakes but the diagrams didn't show the adjustment wheels.

Yes, later Ford, maybe post 1937?

This is the rear end I was going to put under my Model A when I went through my "hydraulic brake" phase. You can see the torque tube is similar to the Model A but it has "scallops" on the outer diameter.

Never did make it to hydraulic land. This when I realized the limitation of stopping the car is NOT the brakes but rather the contact with the road. I could already skid the car on all four wheels - so what extra stopping could hydraulic brakes do for me?

Now that I roughly know the year. I looked and found how to adjust the rear brakes. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=112160
