Default Where to get Speedo?

I've got a round speedo that's toast... MPH works but wanders a little, only the tenths work on the odo, etc... it says on the back its a Northeast.

anyone know where I can get a new one? Snyders and Mac's says they'll only exchange like-for-like and thiers are Stewart-Warner. I'm not really excited about trying to o'haul this myself - got plenty of other things to get done.

I have had very good luck getting my 29's Speedo from Papanick on this board (he also is in the want ad area). E-mail him your needs at [email protected]

I have aslo used the gentleman above ( Junior Nicholson ) and I was extremely impressed. He rebuilt speedometers on 3 of my Model A's and did a super job at a great price.

I send mine out to Harry Warburton. Has always been a good deal for me.Others use Cushman, have never used him,but have never heard anything bad.Years ago I used to use A&L,but he gave up doing them.Back then he was always hungry for cores so I would trade him two good cores for one redone speedo.I had 5 gallon buckets full of them so that was a good deal for me also.I do remember that years ago some wouldn't touch a Northeast pot metal speedo, but I can't remember who they were.I have a Northeast in a 30 roadster that I sent out because it was bouncy.I got it back with a $35.bill,turns out it didn't need a rebuild, just a clean and oil.

If you replace it, don't throw that Northeast speedo away, and especially not the cable that goes with it. The cables are hard to find, and the NE can be rebuilt.

Papanik has a good reputation, and there are a couple guys on eBay who also have good reps. Expect to pay about $150-$200 for a rebuilt unit; add some $$$ for a replacement cable.

Ray, I THINK the round NE uses the regular cable unlike the oval NE.

Have dealt with Chris Cushman on several occasions and have been very pleased. He has done Speedometer Presentations at the MARC National Meet in 2011 and MAFCA National Meet in 2012. He's a Model A guy who owns and drives his A's. Always a pleasure to deal with and talk to.

Hmmm. Thanks for bringing that up. My experience has only been with the oval. It would be interesting to know for sure if the round uses a standard cable. I hope someone comes on with an answer.

I also had my oval recalibrated by JR. It seems to works great.

Also you may want to keep your eye on EBay. I see them on there all the time. About 2 years ago I purchase one on EBay and it still is working great.

I finally got to check mine out that JR had worked over. Works great-checked with a GPS and the speed matched the GPS close or as close as you can with a GPS. GPS's or at least the one I have varies a few miles per hour as you go along so it is hard to get a good reading to check against the A speedo. But the GPS varied close to what the the A registered.
