Original 1932 Chassis
I ran across some photos I took at the 2007 LA Roadster Show that I though you 1932 guys might be interested in. This was originally a Ford dealer display chassis in 1932. The Harrahs collection aquired it and restored. I took a few photos of the stuff you don't normally get a good look at.

Re: Original 1932 Chassis
thanx for posting those images, there are a lot of small details that were brought to light. i am NOT a `32 ford expert, but the one thing that i noticed that might be out of place is the battery ground strap. i think it should be attached to a lug on the torque clam shell. anybody agree or disagree?

Re: Original 1932 Chassis
Thanks for all the photos. They would have saved me lots of time if I'd had them when I was doing up my 34 pickup. Lots of the details stayed up till 1934. Byron.

Re: Original 1932 Chassis
That rod attaches to the throttle rod on dash.In 33 the throttle rod goes through the firewall directly to the carb.

Re: Original 1932 Chassis
You're right, Hotcoupe, the ground strap goes to the torque clam cover and it appears to be too long. Of course, the battery is'nt the right type either. Today, its difficult to restore a 32 to exact factory specs, some parts are just not available and/or very rare. The best way to restore a 32 now is to use 32 restoration manuals like those authored by David Rehor and follow the information word for word. To answer Tim's question, the long rod from the accelerator pedal goes up to a ballcrank attached to the instrument tunnel which attaches to another rod which goes thru firewall to carburetor.

Re: Original 1932 Chassis
On the rod that Tim was asking about.I failed to mention the bell crank( that Carl mentioned) it attaches to and the short throttle rod in the dash tunnel connects to that bell crank.I don't believe it goes through the firewall.

Re: Original 1932 Chassis
Wow.. I`ve allways felt that old car chassis is at least as beautiful as the finished car. I now have two early fords in this state and want to enjoy it for a while before i mount the bodies.
And ofcourse the 32 chassis is the prettiest of them all. |

Re: Original 1932 Chassis
Thanks for the pictures. I have copied them to my pictures folder. Have you got any more of this chassis that you could post?

Re: Original 1932 Chassis
Question, what are the two light colored straps that are in the first two pictures? They are on the top two bolts of the tranny and go where. I have a 34 and do not have them. Al K.

Re: Original 1932 Chassis
They have grommets in them (you can see in the second picture) that direct the starter cable over the top of the transmission.

Re: Original 1932 Chassis
You're correct, Deucelover, the long verticle rod goes from gas pedal to ballcrank on instrument tunnel, another short rod goes from ballcrank to throttle rod/knob on inst. panel.

Re: Original 1932 Chassis
the battery cable brackets are 18-14548 and 18-14550 and are used on 32 thru 34.

Re: Original 1932 Chassis
Did the '32 not have an access plate with the 2 screws to the clutch area? Or was that an early change?

Re: Original 1932 Chassis
I noticed the transmission case has the top grease cup for the throwout bearing. I have seen a smiliar trans case with the grease cup on the right side at about horizontal centerline, which is the earlier type case? It seems the top grease cup location is more commonly seen.
Thanks Paul |
