Default New distributor from Charlie ny

Wanted to report that I recently installed a remanufactured Chevrolet distributor built by Charlie ny in my 34 pickup/EAC motor. This dist. is a vac. advance unit that he makes up and boy does it work well. Everything about my experience from purchase to setup was first class. Thanks Charlie!

My distributor needs were compounded by my truck having a GM 2GC carb installed by previous owner in conjunction with a stock Ford Loadamatic dist. The combo will not work. Period. Charlies unit comes with a new cap that is not shown in my pics. Needed to remove a small amount of material from the cap. Used an old cap for trial.

That looks good. One thing; the points adjustment window seems to be located 180 degrees from here you would want it. Knowing Charlie, there's got to be a good reason for this. Wonder what it is? Electronic conversion? That would make point access a non-issue.

Gearheadbill has it installed just like mine (also done by Charlie). The vacuum advance diaphragm is in the stock loadomatic location, and still allows easy point adjustment through the GM window. I found this to be the best orientation with a vacuum diaphragm on an 8BA.

OK. So it's high enough to get a hex key in. I really couldn't tell from the picture. Must be the perspective.

Thanks for the explanation.

Another modification you coukd make to your engine would br a set of EAB heads milled for .050" piston to head clearance, You'd gain almost a point in compression. Up the torque and increase the fuel mileage

I also have this distributor set up on an 8BA from Charlie NY. with adjustable vaccum advance unit.
Also have the EAB heads but not yet installed. Need to progress this at some stage. At present set up it runs great so look forward to the head change.

Guys, the issue is the adv can and the configuration of the underside of the distributor casting. The can is the ' the frosting on this cake'. No can eliminates the tightness issue but the can is too good an option not to have.

All I know is that it made a HUGE improvement on my truck...purrs at idle, revs quick and without hesitation, easy to coordinate with the 2GC carb.

I think it is, or at least can be. Only 2 owners since early 1960's...one from 64-90, the second from 90-18. Old lacquer and same era pin striping are a nice feature. Thanks.

Charlie often states to PM him. If you are not aware of how that works, scroll up to post #7 and click on Charlies name on the left. In the dropdown menu click on personal message.
