"What the h*ll is that!"
As I sometimes do I put in a minimum bid in a "grab bag" of model A parts on E-Bay, and won! I got some good model A parts, and some stuff I could not identify. I thought I would put it out there to see if you know what they are. Pictures of the parts (along with one of Steve Martin) are below:
BTW the item that looks like a grease cup has no through hole to the part that looks like a bearing or bushing. Yes confusing! Last edited by pgerhardt; 12-10-2017 at 07:09 PM. |

Bottom two are Bendix parts. Upper right looks like the dipstick of a '27 gadooink roadster sedan. Center are twist-in grease caps

Re: "What the h*ll is that!"
The photo with the grease cup almost looks like someone tried to make a way to grease the service brake cross shaft bushing. I can't see how the grease cup would clear the bracket. Also I think this is someone's idea that didn't get finished ie: no through hole for the grease. If you look up the Service brake repair bushing parts it will make sense. The grease cup is not part of the repair kit.

Re: "What the h*ll is that!"
To those who guessed grease cups notice that there is no through hole from where it cup screws on, and no where for grease to go??? Unless the bushing part is porous ????

I stand by my "guess" on the cam shaft nut.

Re: "What the h*ll is that!"
Maybe they planed on the bushing being tight on the cross shaft and grease only getting between the bushing and carrier.

Re: "What the h*ll is that!"
That grease cup is just like the ones on my hitmiss engines . After you fill the bottom screw in part with grease , you screw the top on and it will force the grease out a little at a time as you turn the cap in .

Re: "What the h*ll is that!"
Thanks Clem.....I feel vindicated. For a minute I was thinking I was the nut. I sure love this Forum. Every day is like an advanced class in Model A. It may hold the timing gear on but it's called a cam nut.
Sorry JacksonIII I misread your response........When I tried to correct what I wrote it wouldn't let me.............darn computers!!!!! Delete is the best I could do. Last edited by foxfire42; 12-10-2017 at 09:46 PM. |

Re: "What the h*ll is that!"
I have one of those twist in grease caps on my water pumps,
Handy to give it a twist if the pump starts to drip. and better than searching under the seat for the right grease gun |

Re: "What the h*ll is that!"
Grease cups known as Lunkenheimers: original manufacturer. Potentially feeding to a sintered bronze bushing (oilite) that was originally porous but bush has been replaced with copper which is caveman, perfect for an A.
