Yep, I just heard the other day about a bad deal for a motorcycle junkyard I used to deal with quite a bit. The owner had a few pole barns full of rare and expensive motorcycles. They were all loaded onto shipping containers and sent to England for over $3,000,000 only to have the check bounce. The lawyer said it would cost about that much trying to get back the money or motorcycles.

I'm an (ex) lawyer in England and I can't think it would cost 1% of that. Not even 1%.

I hate to see people get ripped off. I also hate to see offshore scammers use UK addresses, emails and phone numbers to hide their true whereabouts and identities. If I can help anyone on this board establish the bona fides of any UK seller or buyer then happy to do so at no charge.

I always provide US references to any US based sellers as a matter of course, as otherwise I just don't get a reply.

Don't mind doing it, but makes me sad that I have to

Sorry, but your response to his ad sounded like a scammer to me too. Anyone who wants to buy a car sight unseen and uses email is doing exactly what scammers do.

Yep. Reminds me of the line a friend used to use at nightclubs after being turned down for a dance. "Then what the hell are you here for! ?"

I bought the car in my avatar just like this scenario. 7:30 AM, Craigs List , me in Oshkosh, seller in New Jersey. Made an offer, He said, " We got a deal, He called me back an hour later, and said, " I sold it too cheap "- He was a Used Car dealer, who just happened to take this in trade ! I told him I would come up $ 500.00 and send Deposit at once, but that was it! He said, " I was his first call, " He said - We got a deal. And the rest is history ! It was a really Good Deal !

The Police Departments up here are offering there Front Lobby or Parking lot as a place for On-Line transactions to take place. If I figure there's a scam going on I'll make arrangements using the Police option. Strange some people just don't get back to you!!!
