Default 1969 f100 360 v-8 starter

My `69 f100 with a 360 v-8 and standard tran. has developed a starter issue. Every once in awhile the starter spins but won`t engage. Last night I had to put in gear and rock the truck and that seemed to(might have??)freed it up so it turned over and started. Do I need another starter or is the bendix replaceable?? As always any thoughts and solutions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Al

check the flywheel ring gear, some times they wear in one spot , and rocking tends to move it to a not so worn area. or take the starter off and check or replace the drive or the complete starter.

The starter drive is replacable. Go to NAPA and they should have one in stock as they were the same on Fords for years.

Ford starter drives (commonly referred to as bendix) from that era were notorious for going bad. You don't need to replace the starter, just replace the bendix. It's an easy repair.

Thanks for NAPA idea. They did not have the bendix rebuild kit($22) in stock but did have a rebuilt starter for $49. After installing glad I went that route cuz what a difference! Thanks to all and happy motoring!
