I have repaired some sheet metal on my 36 and noticed that there was a thick spray type undercoating on the inside of the original panels. I’m trying to duplicate this sprayed on substance. Does anyone know what I can use? It’s pretty thick probably about an 1/8 on on inch or more. It almost looks like spray foam. Any suggestions.

The only thing I have ever used for such a situation is wet or dry roof patch/sealer that is available at home centers.
I just used a stiff brush to apply to any thickness and surface finish I wanted.

The spray-in bed liner works very well, it comes in spray cans. Rust-Oleum makes a good truck bed spray. I Have used Flex-Seal also.
I actually prefer the sheet applied sound deadiner, Dyna-Mat or Road Kill, very easy to apply inside of doors, quarter panels, and floor pans.

Which, I am curious, did Ford apply undercoating to some areas when new, and if so, to what years and areas ? I've seen many original cars with it applied, and often wondered if it was factory or an add- on ?

My 50 had it under all of the back seat. Real thick.

Ford dealers applied total undercoating as an option, as few if any came from the factory with undercoating.

May be talking two different things, sound deadening vs rust type protection undercoating. Both do reduce sound, but the sound deadening specific spray is only in specific locations.

jseery has it again. that sound deadening stuff henry put in the doors and rear quarters has been all flaked off and laying on the bottom in a big pile holding moisture on every old car i've had, and thus rotting out the bottoms of the doors and quarters. you guys with nice original cars should keep that in mind. i know opening up a nice original interior makes your stomach turn, but some day when you see the rust bubbles on the bottoms of the car you may wish you had cleaned it out!

Roof patching material should be avoided inside of a vehicle, a chemical smell inside of the car can be the result.
