My take on KRW A371
Finally poured some babbitt to make a tool to hold the camshaft when putting on the timing gear. Not too clean but is very functional. Pictures attached.

Nice, but a lot of work. I just use soft copper jaws in a vice.

Re: My take on KRW A371
It was a little work but it started a few years ago. Put hinges on the 2 pieces of channel iron and poured babbitt around a camshaft bearing. Thought that would work but it just made a bearing. Camshaft would turn when putting torque on the timing gear nut. Dummy me. Project went on the back shelf until now. Got motivated when was asked to pour a bearing for the shaft that makes the horses go up and down on a carousel that is being restored.
Now I can hold a cam. Was using soft aluminum to hold it. |

John,
As a fellow KRW collector I can say Excellent job!! Looks like the original one. Like Jim I use the bronze jaws in my vice but it is nice to have the right tool. Kudos!!! Larry Shepard |

Re: My take on KRW A371
Nice job! We have an original KRW tool for this job. It just is steel, no soft lining. Yours looks round so maybe you are using the clamping force to keep the cam from turning by clamping to the journal? The original is shaped like the lobe on the cam to keep it from turning. But if it works, fantastic!
