Default ESTA anyone?

I happened to "save" this item several years ago from a boiler room getting a new heating system. I knew that it was old and had it setting on my book shelf in the garage.

Today I got rid of some old catalogs and magazines and checked on-line about this aluminum box with a porthole.

Found several 1918 saturday evening post adds for the ESTA water auxiliator, "twenty four hours of uniform efficiency". Any one with more info or has one mounted on their T, I would like to see it.
