Tab in or Tab out - Hose Clamps

Bear with a newb question, I have been searching for the answer to this perhaps silly question.

I bought spiffy new hoses and also the authentic type clamps to replace the modern hose clamps.

Does the tang on the clamp go inside or outside of the hose clamp? Inside seems incorrect - to gouge perhaps the hose.

I don't want a purist to throw stones at my stone guard

I'm not sure I understand the question? These clamps are originals and installed correctly. I think you mean the thin tang that tucks UNDER the other side of the clamp.
BTW, I use a thin coat of lubricant on the inside of the clamps, to help them not grab onto the rubber hose as they are tightened.

Carl - true, but it might hit the whitewalls and bounce to the alternator ....
sorry - as a new person I am fascinated by the drama of the those three as well as others

So on mine the tab goes through a groove and "sticks up" outside of the clamp. Overthinking it I wondered if I was supposed to tuck the tab under the solid part. I think Bill has it - pointy side is just out.

Yes, after the clamp is tightened, just push the tang against the hose.
The clamps are similar to the high priced clamps, but do have a cheaper look to them.
I don't know why the more correct clamps should cost so much more?

Maybe they left the looooong pointy thingy so someone would NOT try to tuck them in. Gregg was troubled by the pointy thing, "Maybe we should bend them back over the nut" Dad says, "Why"??? Buster T. said NOTHING, but that expression was worth a THOUSAND words!!! Gregg said, "I'll cut them off"! Ol' Dad says, "Can't you find sumptin' else to do"? I gave it a light coat of oil for the winter storage. Also this was right after the vinegar treatment and cleanup last fall. I'd rather see an engine with a light oil coating, rather than a light rust coating.
